Training and Education
Education and training are key components that promotes self-worth, employment, security, and knowledge that can enhance the lives of program participates. Program participates are encourages to enroll in all Volunteers of America Bay Area's education and training programs.
Day Labor Program
The Day Labor Program coordinates employment for casual laborers in the East Bay.  Each month, we place over 200 men in permanent jobs and secure temporary placements for 200 others.  Other services include social service referrals to laborers and their families.  In 2003 the program saw close to 13, 500 laborers.
Crew Based Sheltered Employment Program
This six-month program is designed to provide young men and opportunity to learn hands on skills and in class education. The program offers clients on-the-job training, resources, support and education to help him succeed in securing unsubsidized employment after graduation. The program works closely with the City of Oakland Department of Public Works, Oakland Fire Department, and Oakland Parks and Recreation Dept. The program will graduate 16 clients each year.
