Oakland, August 15, 2002 - Thousands of Bay Area students start their first day of school unprepared to participate in their studies. The reason is simple. They do not have the necessary “school supplies”. These students come from caring homes but many of the parents cannot afford the many supplies their children need to start the school year. That’s why Volunteers Of America Bay Area and Give Something Back will provide 1000 students with the much-needed school supplies to start the school off on the right foot.
John R. Bailey, President of Volunteers of America Bay Area
said we believe in two things, first “There are no limits to Caring” and
second and foremost, that education is the key to the success
of our young people and future leaders”.
Volunteers of America Bay Area will host its 3rd Annual Back to School Supply Kick Off Party
and Rally on Saturday, August 24, 2002, from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Arroyo Viejo Community
Center at 7701 Krause Ave. During this event Volunteers of America Bay Area will provide the
School supplies and there will be a raffle of gift certificates to local stores for clothing and shoes.
Volunteers of America Bay Area is a nonprofit, spiritually based organization providing local
human service programs and opportunities for individuals and community involvement.
The Back to School Giveaway is sponsored by Give Something Back Business Supplies,
Clorox, Port of Oakland and Wells Fargo Bank.
