Scholastic Book Program
Each year Volunteers of America Bay Area receives over 10,000 books and educational toys for distribution to the Bay Area community.  The distribution focus areas are: education, adolescent literacy, reaching out to Native American communities and to Latino communities, working with families impacted by homelessness and working with families impacted by a family member’s incarceration.

Oakland and San Francisco Youth Action Teams

The Action Teams, an expanding youth volunteer initiative created and administered by Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust, is training the next generation of volunteers. Action Teams of Major League baseball players and area high school students work together to inspire and encourage youth to get involved helping those in need in their communities. Through the support of Volunteers of America's local offices across the country, Action Teams are currently at work in eleven locations: Boston, Dallas Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York City, Oakland, Philadelphia, Portland (Maine), San Francisco and Seattle. To date, the Action Team initiative has inspired over 5,000 youth volunteers to assist over 31,000 people in need.
